Biomedical Sciences at the University of Waterloo is a program that provides exposure to different science backgrounds and faculties to prepare students for postgraduate studies. One of the highlights of the program is that students get valuable hands-on experience through labs guaranteed at least once every term. "These lab sessions let you apply what you’ve learned in class to real-world scenarios, making the material more engaging and helping to reinforce your understanding behind the application of science," notes Emily. With electives offered each term, students have the flexibility to explore interests or even pursue a minor within or outside of science.

Mona explains why she loves the program: "I love Biomedical Sciences because it offers the perfect balance of flexibility and a strong foundation in science, allowing me to explore my academic passions while preparing for professional schools." Furthermore, since there is no co-op requirement, students like Skyla "get the summers off to continue gaining experience as well as relax which is quite nice!"

Innovation in Biomedical Engineering

Beyond the core science program, Waterloo Announces New Biomedical Engineering Degree. As the Faculty’s 13th undergraduate engineering degree, Biomedical Engineering will be housed in Waterloo Engineering’s Systems Design Engineering Department. Its curriculum will focus specifically on biomedical systems and the development of biomedical technologies, giving students the unique opportunity to blend hands-on design expertise with workplace experiences.
