Family and Community Medicine Residency Program

The Family and Community Medicine Residency Program at Temple develops family physicians who will lead the world. Our ideal residents possess a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude and a keen interest in practicing medicine in an urban environment. This program focuses on teaching and implementing evidence-based medicine and best practices across the family medicine spectrum. It advocates and promotes primary care, led by family physicians, as the foundation of effective health care. The program encourages and respects diversity by creating a culture of safety and inclusion and seeks and values on-going continuous relationships and integrated partnerships. It also acknowledges the impact of trauma on individuals and communities by recognizing, responding to, and resisting re-traumatization of ourselves or our community.

The Temple University Hospital Northwest Community Family Medicine Residency Program has an impactful and long-standing presence in the greater Philadelphia community. Its mission is to serve local underserved communities. Residents participate in community outreach, health screenings, clinics and programs that serve health-disparate, marginalized and at-risk populations. Residents are also active and hold positions in local, regional, and national organizations where they promote health advocacy, influence health policy and effect transformation in urban family medicine.

The Department of Family and Community Medicine is located at 1316 W. Ontario Street, First Floor, Jones Hall, Philadelphia, PA 19140. The administrative office can be reached at 215-707-8961, and the clinical office at 215-707-2400.
