American Red Cross Training Services and Continuing Education for Healthcare Professionals

The American Red Cross’s Training Services portfolio prepares healthcare professionals to respond when moments matter. The impact we make is great with millions of people a year receiving Red Cross training and information in first aid, water safety, and other skills that help save lives. Our approach to resuscitation and critical care education is focused on the interprofessional healthcare team, which includes nurses, physicians, and paramedics to name a few.

The Resuscitation Suite and Specialized Training

The American Red Cross Resuscitation Suite™ is proud to announce an exciting expansion with the inclusion of Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS), enhancing its comprehensive suite of life-saving education offerings, now providing CE credit for the entire interprofessional healthcare team. In collaboration with the Association of Women’s Health Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), the Red Cross has expanded resuscitation education to include two blended learning NALS course options. Participants are presented with realistic cases in a variety of settings that require them to quickly assess the newborn, analyze the data presented and determine appropriate next steps. NALS bridges the gap between theory and practice to encourage meaningful learning that builds skills and confidence.

In addition to these advancements, Red Cross Procedural Sedation Courses for Adults and Pediatrics have been developed in collaboration with American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). This adaptive education solution provides two courses for healthcare professionals that perform procedural sedation, while supporting credentialing and regulatory requirements. The Red Cross Continuing Education Program is also excited to announce that other Resuscitation Suite course, including Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support, will provide accredited CE credit for the entire interprofessional healthcare team with its new release in Fall 2025.

Continuing Education (CE) Credits and Joint Accreditation

Interprofessional continuing education (IPCE) is when members from two or more professions learn with, from, and about each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes. Participants can easily claim their continuing education (CE) credits through our new platform, which makes it easy for EMS to access your CAPCE (Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education) credits instantly, giving you a seamless experience from start to finish. To receive continuing education credit in Resuscitation and Critical Care courses, please Claim CE within 45 days of course completion.

In support of improving patient care, American Red Cross is jointly accredited to provide continuing education for the healthcare team by the following bodies:

  • Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)
  • Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)
  • American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
  • Commission on Accreditation for Prehospital Continuing Education
