Baltimore CONNECT is a Baltimore-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that unites community-based organizations and the Johns Hopkins Health System to strengthen connections between social services and healthcare across the city. Steps to Become a Volunteer at GBMC HealthCare

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Volunteer at GBMC! New openings in our Volunteer Department! We are looking for Greeters, Gift Shop, and Pharmacy volunteers. Please follow the links to learn more about our programs and to access the applications.

Available Volunteer Roles

  • Greeters: Volunteer Greeters are needed to welcome patients, families, and visitors to our hospital. As a greeter, you will also assist with wayfinding. Greeters help patients and guests feel more comfortable during their visit. There are several shifts available.
  • Gift Shop: Enjoy working in our Corner Shop at GBMC. Work the register and meet and greet the community of people who enter the Gift Shop. The shifts for the Corner Shop are 4 hours, and the most needed times are Thursdays, 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
  • Pharmacy: Our pharmacy is looking for volunteers to help with various tasks around the department. The shifts are Monday through Friday, 8-12. Come volunteer with a friendly staff that is eager to work with you.

Mandatory Health Requirements

To ensure safety, the following health requirements are mandatory to volunteer at GBMC:

Proof of Immunity to:

  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR)
  • Varicella (Chicken Pox)
  • Hepatitis B (may decline)

Required Vaccinations and Tests:

  • Annual Flu Vaccine
  • TDAP Vaccine
  • COVID-19 Vaccine
  • Test for TB within the last year

Specific Volunteer Programs

Traditional Adult Program

This program is for individuals who have the commitment to volunteer year over year. Students or individuals transitioning to a healthcare career are encouraged to apply through the College Program.

College Program

Who qualifies for the College Program? This includes recent High School graduates who will be attending college in the next semester, undergraduates, and college graduates preparing for graduate school, such as those in a gap year or career transition.

High School Program

This program is for students who are 16 years of age by July 1 and students who have completed 10th grade. Graduating High School students should apply to the College Program.
