Healthcare Management Minor

The Healthcare Management minor prepares students to contribute to improved outcomes of management functions in practices, labs, clinics, insurance companies, hospitals and other healthcare-related organizations. It allows students to acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities to become team leaders, supervisors and managers — from majors as diverse as:

  • Health Sciences
  • Psychology
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Finance

The minor focuses on the competencies identified by healthcare leadership organizations, including communication and relationship management, professionalism, leadership, knowledge of the healthcare environment, and business skills and knowledge. This minor can be completed within most 120-credit undergraduate programs.

Healthcare Management Minor Courses

Healthcare Management Courses

This area emphasizes knowledge of the healthcare environment, leadership, and business skills and knowledge. Both courses are required:

  • BUS 201 Principles Management - 3 credits
  • BUS 350 Healthcare Management - 3 credits

Analyzing Healthcare Issues Courses

This area emphasizes critical thinking and analytical thinking and business skills and knowledge. Students must choose two courses from the following:

  • BUS 380 Quality in Healthcare - 3 credits
  • BUS 381 Healthcare Law - 3 credits
  • OSC 363 Introduction to Six Sigma - 3 credits
  • BIS 362 Healthcare Informatics - 3 credits
  • FIN 401 Health Insurance - 3 credits

Communicating about Healthcare Courses

This area emphasizes communication and relationship management and knowledge of the healthcare environment. Select one course:
