The Bridges to Healthcare Program

The Bridges to Healthcare internship program is an innovative paid program created to assist in closing the skills gap in healthcare by supporting the education of high school students and recent high school graduates. The program provides early exposure to healthcare careers and is offered in two phases. Launched in January 2022, 103 students have participated in Bridges to Healthcare, and the program is made possible by the John M. Belk Endowment’s $1.4 million grant to the Novant Health Foundation.

Phase I: High School Internship

Phase I provides high school students with exposure to both clinical and non-clinical careers. Students gain real-world experience and mentorship through rotations including radiology, rehabilitation, respiratory services, Novant Health’s people & culture solutions center and the Novant Health Medical Group. Students also receive training on college and career readiness with mock interviews, financial literacy modules, and work ready credentialing and certification.

Phase II: Educational Assistance

Phase II of the program provides educational assistance for students pursuing an associate degree, certification, or diploma in a healthcare-related field at any participating North Carolina community college, funding full tuition, books and fees. This phase is designed for recent high school graduates interested in pursuing healthcare degrees at community college.
