TASME’s mission is to foster inclusive engagement and advance scholarship in health professions education among early career educators including both health professionals and academic faculty. We are committed to building a diverse, supportive community that champions innovation, research, and excellence in health professions education. The following strategic vision guides our work: To shape the future of health professions education by empowering early career educators to become inclusive, innovative leaders, researchers and educators who improve learning and , in turn, patient care.
TASME was established in 2011 to provide a platform for trainees to share ideas and experiences within medical education. In the years since we have established an annual academic conference tailored to trainees, a number of prizes (including some recent changes), and regional networks to support local activities. We support the community through a variety of projects, including tailored events and national awards. For instance, we are celebrating innovation & excellence – congratulations James Glasbey and we are introducing the new TASME award – Interprofessional Education Award.
TASME TiME – Talks in Medical Education – is a podcast launched in 2022. Aimed at trainees with an interest in medical education it follows on from the MedEd Forum discussions on Twitter hosted by both TASME and JASME. TASME TiME aims to pick up on some of these topics and discuss them in more depth. Each episode delves into a discussion around educational practice, theory, or hot topic with a panel of guests who bring their expertise and experience to the podcast. A new episode of TASME TiME is released each month and is available on all major podcast platforms.
The podcast team is composed of dedicated professionals as shown below:
| Team Member | Role and Background |
|---|---|
| Oliver Mercer | An Internal Medicine Trainee (IMT) based in London who produces and co-hosts the podcast. |
| Assim Javaid | A Paediatric Emergency Medicine trainee and medical education PhD candidate based in Cardiff who edits the podcast. |
| Mark Sanders | An Elderly Care Teaching Fellow based in Sunderland who produces and co-hosts the podcast. |
Whilst we are predominantly aimed towards early career educators, we hope listeners from any career stage may well reach the end of an episode and have learned something! So far episodes have covered topics such as Decolonising Medical education, Simulation, Wellbeing of Learners, and LGBTQ+ Medical Education. We continue to share TASME’s activities, events, and educational resources with the community and provide a platform for discussion and exchange between members, the TASME committee, and partner organisations.
