Clinical Skills Education and Evaluation Center at the Keck School of Medicine

The Clinical Skills Education and Evaluation Center (CSEEC) is a long-standing training and assessment center for healthcare professionals. Established in 1963, it aims to create a realistic simulation environment for practicing safe and effective clinical care with compassion. Nurturing future healthcare leaders through excellence in education, the center serves as a pioneer in several aspects of medical education.

Training and Education Excellence

Students and faculty alike have access to the Clinical Skills Education and Evaluation Center, where simulated clinical scenarios can be critiqued. Exploring foundational science and specialized clinical fields, the CSEEC provides instruction and assessments in various areas, including:

  • History taking
  • Physical examination
  • Critical thinking
  • Differential diagnoses
  • Interprofessional collaboration
  • Patient handover
  • Obtaining informed consent

Additionally, the center emphasizes the development of resilience and problem-solving skills in medical students. The CSEEC is also a member of the California Consortium for the Assessment of Clinical Competence (CCACC), which conducts an annual Clinical Performance Examination (CPX) shared among eight medical schools in California.

The CSEEC is located in a sate-of-the-art facility featuring 16 examination rooms equipped with tools like SPs, task trainers, and high-fidelity mannequins for teaching and assessing communication and clinical skills.
