Grants Open for the Dubbo Electorate’s Future Healthcare Heroes

Healthcare students in the Dubbo electorate are encouraged to apply for the Tertiary Health Study Subsidies program, offering up to $12,000 in subsidies to support new students enrolling in healthcare degrees across NSW. The program is designed to reduce financial barriers to tertiary healthcare education and increase the NSW Health workforce, supporting 12,000 students from 2024 for five years.

Program Benefits and Support Levels

The program provides significant financial assistance to students at different stages of their education:

  • New Students: Up to $12,000 in subsidies to support those enrolling in healthcare degrees.
  • Existing Students: For university students who have already commenced their studies, applications for a one-off payment of $8,000 after acceptance of employment within NSW Health has also been made available.

As part of the program, successful applicants must make a five-year commitment to working within the NSW public health system. Regional NSW is set to benefit from dedicated grants for nursing, medicine and paramedicine students studying in rural areas and for those who intend to commit to working in regional or rural NSW following the completion of their studies.

Broad Eligibility Across Healthcare Disciplines

Applications are also open for those studying other healthcare degrees at NSW universities state-wide including:

  • Psychology
  • Dentistry
  • Pharmacy
  • Radiography
  • Aboriginal health and more

Community Impact and Encouragement

Member for Dubbo, Dugald Saunders welcomed the announcement and encouraged those in the region who are enrolled in tertiary health care studies to apply. “Students from regional and rural communities often face financial barriers with the associated costs of studying away from home. I welcome funding programs that help to level the playing field and improve access to university education,” Dugald said.

“I also encourage any enrolled healthcare students to consider committing to working in regional NSW following the completion of your course and enjoy all the Dubbo electorate has to offer.” Full details of the program including eligibility requirements and application information is available online at www.health.nsw.gov.au.
