Infectious Diseases Across a Woman's Lifespan Course and Global Health Initiatives

Weill Cornell Medicine Center for Global Health’s Infectious Diseases Across a Woman’s Lifespan Course is a unique, intensive four-day in-person course on sex differences in global infectious diseases, host immunology across the woman’s lifespan, treatment, prevention, and social determinants that contribute to poorer health outcomes for women. The objectives of the course are to provide high-impact didactic and interactive instruction by world-renowned researchers, offer practical tools to conduct research in women’s health across the lifespan, and provide networking opportunities with peers and senior leaders in women’s health research.

This course is intended for motivated early career investigators focused on global infectious diseases in women. The course is scheduled from May 19–22, 2025, and applicants must apply by January 15.

Global Health Initiatives at Weill Cornell

Weill Cornell's commitment to global health is manifest through long-standing international partnerships. Faculty and students at all levels participate in wide-ranging service, research, and training activities to develop innovations and improve health among the world's poor.

Major International Partnerships

  • Brazil: Collaborative research and training programs between Cornell University and the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) were first initiated in 1964. A central feature has been the exchange of faculty, fellows, and students between the US and Brazil.
  • Haiti: GHESKIO (Groupe Haitien d’Etude du Sarcome de Kaposi et des Infection Opportunistes) Centers, created in 1982, is one of the oldest institutions dedicated to the fight against AIDS. GHESKIO has three main objectives: patient care, training of medical personnel and community leaders, and operational research.
  • Tanzania: The mission of Weill Cornell Medical College in Mwanza, Tanzania is to strengthen medical education at the Weill Bugando School of Medicine at Bugando Medical Center (BMC). The goal is to improve and expand upon Tanzania's core of health-care providers.
  • Pune, India: Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College (BJMC) in Pune, India, is among the top medical colleges in India. Their collaboration with Weill Cornell focuses on HIV, gestational diabetes, and tuberculosis in pregnancy.

Clinical Impact in India

BJMC is affiliated with Sassoon General Hospital, a 1,300-bed public facility that treats underserved populations from the surrounding rural and urban communities. Its 21 outpatient clinics provide care to almost half a million patients, and its maternity ward delivers over ten thousand infants annually. In 2009, BJMC became the newest program to partner with the Weill Cornell Medicine Center for Global Health.
