Khalifa University College of Medicine and Health Sciences: Advancing Medical Education in the UAE

Khalifa University of Science and Technology announced the launch of Abu Dhabi’s first-ever College of Medicine and Health Sciences. This significant milestone for the university enabled the first cohort of CMHS medical students to commence their clinical clerkships. The College of Medicine and Health Sciences is based at Khalifa University’s main campus, where students will receive training at hospitals and clinics in the capital starting from their first academic year. Khalifa University currently offers 16 bachelors, 18 Master’s and three doctorate (PhD) programs, in addition to the MD program offered by the Khalifa University College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS).

The MD Program and Academic Curriculum

Khalifa University has announced 49 newly enrolled students at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) to study the 4+4 American curriculum MD program. The new programme also offers existing students at Khalifa University a connecting course that allows them to switch careers to medicine and an American-style doctor of medicine (MD) programme. A US partner will work with the university to design and implement the programme. Following graduation, students will be able to complete their residencies with a partner hospital in UAE.

Professional Milestones and the White Coat Ceremony

The Khalifa University College of Medicine and Health Sciences organized a White Coat Ceremony for the third cohort of 49 students. The white coat, which stands as a symbol of the medical profession, also represents a student’s transition to a scientific approach to medicine. During the ceremony, students pledged their allegiance to the medical code of ethics. This event symbolized welcoming the first-year students to the practice of medicine, elevating the value of humanism as the core of health care.
