Overview of Biology and Bioinformatics Courses at BYU Online

Available Biological Science Courses
Courses will be listed as soon as they are available. Below are the key offerings in the field of biology and bioinformatics:
- BIO 100: Introductory course for general education students.
- BIO 165: Introduction to basic concepts in bioinformatics and standard bioinformatic applications.
- BIO 264: In this course, students will learn concepts and applications of statistics and their specific application to research questions spanning diverse subfields of biology. Students will perform these analyses using the R statistical software.
- BIO 316 (Advanced Scientific Writing and Communication): This course covers the effective process of written, oral, and visual scientific communication and development of communication skills for scientific and professional audiences. It includes the employment of appropriate research tools and processes in identifying and evaluating sources, and following professional conventions in written and oral communication.
- BIO 364: In this course, students learn theory and concepts of bioinformatics algorithms that are used in the field. They gain experience implementing these algorithms and applying them.
Academic and Scheduling Details
Certain courses are offered as a Blended Course. For example, BIO 264 has a scheduled meeting time (MW 11:00 AM, MW 11:00 AM, MW 11:00 AM). These classes are designed to provide in-depth study on topics of mutual interest.
