The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Easwari Engineering College (Autonomous), Chennai, continues to provide students with significant academic and professional growth opportunities through diverse events and initiatives.
The department successfully organized several sessions focused on modern medical technology. Guest Lecture titled “Healthcare Informatics” was delivered by Dr. J. Hepsi Bai, Assistant Professor, College of Nursing, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The program was conducted for II and IV year Biomedical Engineering students to provide insights into healthcare informatics and its applications in modern healthcare. On 11 August 2025, the Department of Biomedical Engineering organized a Guest Lecture On DICOM Standards and AI based Diagnosis using Medical Images. The session was delivered by Dr. Annamalai Vairavan (MD Radiology AIIMS), Senior Registrar, SRM PRIME Hospital. This program was conducted for II and IV year Biomedical Engineering students, aiming to provide valuable professional insights.
Focusing on the transition from research to the consumer market, the department successfully conducted a guest lecture on “The Role of Regulatory Affairs in Biomedical Engineering: From Innovation to Market Approval” on 19th September 2025. We were privileged to host Mr. M. Mukesh, PMS Analyst, HCLTech, as our esteemed resource person. His insightful session provided our students with expertise in regulatory frameworks essential for medical innovation.
Hands-on experience remains a priority for the curriculum. A Hands-on Seminar on “LabVIEW for Biomedical Signal Acquisition and Processing” was conducted to provide participants with valuable insights into biomedical signal acquisition, real-time processing, and visualization using LabVIEW. Students were able to explore the practical applications of virtual instrumentation in analyzing physiological signals such as ECG, EMG, and EEG. Key Outcomes included:
Furthermore, the Department of Biomedical Engineering Organized an Observationl Visit to Hospital for the II year students to the Trichy SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, on 9th August 2025. The session was initiated by vibrant talk of the Dean, where he emphasized the practicalities of clinical environments.
The department has achieved significant milestones in research funding. We are delighted to share that Dr. Neela Harish M (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Babu G (Co-Principal Investigator) from the Department of Biomedical Engineering have been awarded a Start-Up Grant of ₹86,40,000/- under the prestigious Human Resource Development (HRD) Scheme for the year 2024–25, supported by the Department of Health Research (DHR) and the Indian Council.
Social responsibility is integrated into departmental activities. The department proudly organised the Organ Donation Awareness Camp on Wednesday, 17th September 2025, at the TRP Auditorium. We were privileged and deeply honoured to have as our Chief Guest, Tmt. S. Madumathi, I.A.S., Secretary to Government, Welfare of Differently Abled Persons Department.
Additionally, the Inaguration of Student Society Biomedeclat (2025–2026) took place on 28th August 2025 at the MBA Hall. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr. M Nandagopal, Chief Operating Officer, Alliance Biomedica Pvt Ltd, Chennai, for delivering an insightful and inspiring speech.
