There are several distinct opportunities available for students interested in advancing their careers in the medical and public health sectors. Below is a detailed overview of the programs provided by Ekal Vidyalaya, the Association of Public Health Laboratories, and Projects Abroad.
Ekal Vidyalaya is excited to announce a new opportunity for college students passionate about healthcare and service: the Ekal Medical Winter Internship. This 3-week program, taking place from December 27, 2025 to January 19, 2026, offers students the chance to gain firsthand experience in rural India, working at the intersection of medicine, public health, and community service.
Interns will actively serve in Ekal villages by supporting local health initiatives, assisting with community outreach, and participating in health education activities. In addition to their daily service, students will have the chance to observe India’s healthcare system in action, including exposure to rural hospitals, shadowing opportunities, and preventative medicine practices. As part of the program, each intern will also complete a small research project aimed at identifying a healthcare need and proposing a future solution that Ekal Vidyalaya could implement to improve the quality of life in rural communities. Students will conduct background research, gather observational data, interview villagers, and present their final proposal at the end of the internship.
This is a unique opportunity for students of any discipline interested in medicine, public health, or global service to build real-world experience, contribute meaningfully to holistic rural development, and immerse themselves in India’s rich culture. We encourage motivated and service-oriented students to apply!
The Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are seeking students who are interested in exploring a career in the laboratory sciences. This initiative allows interns to join a public health laboratory team to make an impact on protecting the health of our communities. Interns assist scientists working on meaningful projects while building skills such as:
Eligible candidates: US citizen or permanent resident currently enrolled at an accredited institution and in pursuit of a relevant certificate, associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree. Not only will interns practice transferable skills, but they will also have the opportunity to network with laboratory professionals and be supervised by a qualified mentor for the duration of the project.
Our medical placements in Nepal for high school students are perfect for those who want to add medical work experience to their CV. Join a group your age on a medical placement and learn from qualified doctors in local hospitals. You’ll shadow them on their rounds and rotate through different departments, including Physiotherapy, Family planning, Eye health, and Cancer treatments.
To help you prepare for a future in medicine, you’ll sit in on lectures at a teaching hospital and join local medical students to see what it will be like once you start studying. You don’t need previous experience to join, as this internship is strictly observational. This High School Special runs over fixed dates, and you can choose the trip that best fits your schedule; each trip runs for two, three, or four weeks at a time.
